pewiSYS: Ergonomic loading solution for Rhenus Logistics. Cleverly designed roller conveyor ensures easy container loading.
PewiSYS / De With Group bv from Ermelo (NL) helped Rhenus Logistics optimize their outbound process (packing, removal, and loading of products with a focus on safety and people).
PewiSYS provided the following solutions:
– pewiVEYOR roller conveyor (at a height of 70 cm) with space for the pewiLOAD mobile belt conveyor. The packing tables are higher so operators don’t have to lift.
– pewiVEYOR discharge conveyor with accumulation function. The roller conveyor is designed to allow for box accumulation (boxes run against each other, allowing more boxes to be placed on the conveyor). This was achieved with a stopper in the conveyor and by adjusting the thrust pressure for three rollers at a time.
– pewiLOAD mobile belt conveyor. The mobile, self-propelled pewiLOAD is placed underneath the pewiVEYOR. This belt conveyor can move in and out of the container. When the stopper on the roller conveyor lowers and the box is released, the belt accelerates the box, creating a gap. As soon as the box passes the sensor, the stopper rises again. The belt conveyor feeds the boxes, one by one, pressure-free to the operator inside the container, similar to the conveyor belt at a supermarket checkout.
A cable reel was chosen to integrate the controls for the pewiLOAD and the pewiVEYOR. This is mounted underneath the roller conveyor and provides both the power supply to the pewiLOAD and the emergency stop.

The biggest challenge was meeting the requirement that the loading height be a maximum of 70 cm and the unloading height within the container be no more than 65 cm. PewiSYS achieved this by dividing the pewiVEYOR’s support legs into two, creating space for the pewiLOAD, which runs underneath the pewiVEYOR. The loading and unloading conveyors are integrated into a self-propelled loading system.
– The maximum loading height is 70 cm, allowing operators to slide packed boxes onto the conveyor (so they don’t have to lift them). The maximum unloading height is 65 cm, making it easier to lift large boxes from the loading system. Finally, there’s no more trolley accumulation at the container.
PewiSYS points out that this solution is fully scalable, has low maintenance costs, and can be performed by the customer themselves.
The system is CE-approved and meets all safety requirements.
