Jungheinrich PowerCube: compact automated storage for a varied product range

Jungheinrich has designed the PowerCube for the most compact storage possible of many different items. This system can prove its value particularly in warehouses for the storage of e-commerce goods. By maximizing storage density and accelerating order processing, warehouses can handle more goods in less space and time.

The heart of the system is Jungheinrich’s own Warehouse Control System (WCS), which controls shuttles via wireless communication with an HMS Ethernet system. The shuttles move across the entire ground floor in two dimensions and make optimal use of the vertical space above the system for maximum storage capacity.

Each shuttle can transport two containers at a time, up to 50 kg per container. Storage is possible up to a height of 12 meters. Installing a PowerCube is relatively simple: the floor does not need to be modified, and the dispatch and receipt stations do not take up much space. Once installed, the system can be adapted to changing customer requirements and can therefore grow with the company. The wireless communication system ensures that the shuttles do not need to be connected by cables. It is IP67 certified, meaning it also functions in damp or cold environments.

The first installations of the PowerCube have already taken place. Jungheinrich plans to expand the PowerCube to larger systems with increasing storage space and a larger number of shuttles. This also requires an advanced wireless design and continuous network monitoring, which must comply with cybersecurity requirements and regulations such as RED, CRA, and NIS2, as well as the upcoming EU Machinery Regulations (2027).
